Chiropractic Care

Over the past ten years, we at Sobel Family Medicine & Physical Therapy have developed a treatment plan for injuries which is based on a foundation of professional and personal knowledge.

We have come to realize that there are many ways to treat soft tissue injuries. What works for one patient may not work for the next. We have found that a great number of patients find great relief in spinal manipulation of the neck and back. Therefore, we have retained the services of Dr. Bruce Demartino a Chiropractic Physician.

Dr. Demartino is a licensed Chiropractor who specializes in spinal manipulation. Dr. Demartino graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1973, and has practiced full time since then. He has practiced in Phoenix for the last fifteen years, moving from Pennsylvania in 1982.

In addition to his chiropractic license he is also certified to practice Physiotherapy and Acupuncture. He has taken his acupuncture studies to the highest level of "Advanced Fellow" in the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. Dr. Demartino continues to study the newest forms of treatment as they become available, but never forgets the tried and true ways of the past. This mixture of old and new allows him to achieve the best possible care for his patients.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a form of health care that deals primarily with the spine and its adjacent structures. The main type of treatment utilized in Chiropractic care is manipulation. Gentle forces are applied to the spine and other joints coaxing them back to their normal alignment. When you are injured, the forces create misalignment of the vertebral segments of the spine. These are called subluxations which may lead to complaints of pain, stiffness, headaches, numbness, muscle spasms and in more severe cases, the loss of motor function. By starting chiropractic care soon after an injury, symptoms can be relieved more quickly before swelling of the tissues occur, which may decrease the effectiveness of manipulation and speed recovery time.

What is Accupuncture?

For over 5000 years the Chinese and other Asian practitioners have used acupuncture to treat many types of health problems. In this country acupuncture is primarily know for its pain relieving ability. Research has shown that the insertion of acupuncture needles in specific points causes natural pain killing substances (endorphins) to be released in the brain.

For may people this natural form of pain relief is preferred over strong drugs. Dr. Demartino is a Fellow and Advanced Fellow in The International Academy of Medical Acupuncture and is highly qualified in many forms of acupuncture techniques. Acupuncture has been found to be a wonderful addition to more traditional therapies in the treatment of traumatic injuries.
