Chiropractic Care

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a form of healthcare that deals primarily with the spine and its adjacent structures. The main type of treatment utilized in Chiropractic care is manipulation. Gentle forces are applied to the spine and other joints coaxing them back to their normal alignment.

When you are injured, the forces create misalignment of the vertebral segments of the spine. These are called subluxations which may lead to complaints of pain, stiffness, headaches, numbness, muscle spasms and in more severe cases, the loss of motor function. By starting chiropractic care soon after an injury, symptoms can be relieved more quickly before swelling of the tissues occur, which may decrease the effectiveness of manipulation and speed recovery time.

What is Acupuncture?

For over 5000 years the Chinese and other Asian practitioners have used acupuncture to treat many types of health problems. In this country, acupuncture is primarily known for its pain relieving ability. Research has shown that the insertion of acupuncture needles in specific points causes natural pain-killing substances (endorphins) to be released in the brain.

For many people, this natural form of pain relief is preferred over strong drugs. Dr. Demartino is a Fellow and Advanced Fellow in The International Academy of Medical Acupuncture and is highly qualified in many forms of acupuncture techniques. Acupuncture has been found to be a wonderful addition to more traditional therapies in the treatment of traumatic injuries.
